THE GLITTER BAND
Glam Rock band, The Glitter Band were originally the support band of Gary Glitter. In 1973 they began releasing their own records and had 7 UK Top 20 hits and 3 successful albums. When Glitter's first single went to number 2 in the UK charts manager Mike Leander knew he would need a backing band and approached John Rossall. The other band members were John Springate, Gerry Shephard, Tony Leonard, Pete Phipps, and Harvey Ellison.

Rossall left the band at the end of 1974 and Shephard, Springate and Phipps took over. With Springate on vocals they released the likes of "Goodbye My Love", "The Tears I Cried" and "People Like You". Sales dropped in 76 with the start of punk rock. The band changed their name to The G Band to disassociate themselves from Gary Glitter but failed to continue their success. 1977 saw their last single release as The Glitter Band with "She Was Alright".
