Marvin Gaye
Marvin Gaye was born on 2nd April 1939, his original name being Marvin Pentz Gaye Jr. he was a well respected American singer who was an original song writer and who had a three octave vocal range. Gaye began his musical career by becoming a member in The Moonglows. The group separated in 1960 and Gaye followed his solo career and signed with Motown Records.
Marvin Gaye started work for the label as a session drummer, but after moving onto record for them became one of the top selling solo performers for Motown .

Marvin Gaye also sung duets with singers like Tammi Terrell and Mary Wells. Gaye’s songs brought him international admiration and he was often called "The Prince of Soul" and "The Prince of Motown". He was internationally successful with big hits in the USA Uk and indeed around the World. His style blended a range of musical genres such as soul, R&B, psychedelic soul, funk, and rock & roll.

Marvin Gaye was a multi-instrumentalist, keyboards, percussion, drums, synthesizers, clavinet. Albums include "What's Going On", "Diana & Marvin", "Let's Get It On", "I Want You", "Marvin Gaye Live!", "Midnight Love", "Live at the London Palladium", "The Very Best of Marvin Gaye" and "Marvin Gaye: The Love Songs".

Gaye released most of his albums through Columbia and Motown (Tamla-Motown).
Gaye had a troubled personal and business life, falling out with Motown and battling alcohol and drug addiction. During an argument over missing business documents his father fatally shot him in 1984.
