Nazareth is a Scottish four-piece most famous for its classic rock rendition of Love Hurts. It is widely regarded that the band were true trailblazers of Scottish rock and on-stage fashion.
Formed in 1968, the band consisted of vocalist Dan McCafferty, guitarist Manny Charlton, bassist Pete Agnew, and drummer Darrell Sweet. It released three albums in 1971, 1972 and 1973 with the latter named Razamanaz that entered the top ten in the UK.
In 1975, the band released its most successful album titled Hair of the Dog which sold over 1 million copies in the United States and propelled them into international hard rock stardom.

Throughout the remaining decade, the band released a series of albums that settled in the top 100. The band had some line up changes but was left without a recording contract by the mid-80s.
Nazareth re-appeared in 1995 with an album called No Jive and again in 1999 with Boogaloo. Both albums failed to gain a sizeable audience in Europe or the States. To add more grief to the band, during its supporting tour of Boogaloo, drummer Sweet collapsed and died. The band cancelled the tour but eventually decided to continue by adding Lee Agnew (son of Pete) to the fold. Nazareth toured with Uriah Heep and played a sold out show in its native Scotland in 2001.
Nazareth continues to tour throughout Europe.

THE JESUS AND MARY CHAIN
The Jesus and Mary Chain are a Scottish indie quartet who formed in 1983, taking the country’s alternative rock-scene by storm and earning themselves a reputation for their violence and often abrupt live shows. Even though the chart success of the band was virtually nonexistent, their impact upon the alternative-rock scene was incalculable. They shocked the audience with their unique orchestration sound, making a new style of rock, proving an inspiration to bands including Dinosaur Jr and My Bloody Valentine.
The brains of the band were two song-writing brothers named Jim and William Reid. Soon after forming, the brothers recorded and sent the demos to various record companies. In the beginning of 1984, they recruited bassist Douglas Hart and the young drummer Murray Dalglish to complete the band’s line-up
Their first single, ‘Upside Down’ was released in 1984, and proved to be a great success despite it’s remarkable blast of live wire feedback and caveman like drumbeat. The first album the band released in 1985, ‘Psychocandy’, was the blending of the two initial works of William Reid and showed a mix of pop songs and droning guitar riffs. This album was the breakthrough the band had been looking for.

Their second album named ‘Darklands’ was released during the band’s tour in September '87, and has been described as "the definitive blend of light and shade". This followed with a collection of singles and B-sides named ‘Barbed Wire Kisses’, and a number of albums; ‘Automatic’ (1989), ‘Honey’s Dead’ (1992), ‘Stoned and Dethroned’ (1994) and ‘Munki’ in 1998.
Due to differences between the brothers, William Reid left the band after their final album, and the group disbanded in 1999. However, on 22nd January 2007, The Jesus and Mary Chain reformed to perform as one of the acts of Coachella festival of 2007.

THE ALMIGHTY
Scottish heavy metal is a rarity, yet Glaswegian hard-rockers The Almighty transformed all this in 1988. The four members; vocalist Ricky Warwick, guitarist Tantrum, bassist Floyd London and drummer Stump Monroe, all came from a punk-rock background, taking their main influences from bands such as The Ramones and The Cult.
They were signed by Polydor in 1989, through which they released their first album, Blood Fire and Love. A live version of the album was released a year later, after the group embarked on a European club tour, following their failed attempt to break the USA. This was soon followed by a live mini-album, which included a cover version of the Bachman-Turner Overdrive's standard, 'You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet'. Shortly after, tensions between band members, left to, funnily enough, the departure of Tantrum. He was replaced by Peter Friessen, former guitarist for Alice Cooper’s backing band.

In 1992, The Almighty performed at Donnington’s Download Festival, and their aggressive performance lead to comparisons between the band and rock greats such as Metallica and Soundgarden. It was from this festival appearance where The Almighty really began to live up to their name. They were asked to support Iron Maiden across Europe, and played multiple stadium dates with Metallica.

In 1993, the band split from their Polydor manager Tommy Tee, and signed to Crysalis in 1994, a record label which the band claimed were ‘less demanding’. This attitude still lead to the band releasing two top 30 UK singles, Despite this, singer Warwick left the band in 1996, and the band split shortly after. They may not be together anymore, but the bands music still lives on as some of the best British metal ever made.
